What the numbers mean

Asking rent is not the same as rent paid

Statistics Canada’s asking-rent series describes advertised rental listings. It is useful for understanding what a person shopping for a unit may encounter, but it does not measure the rent paid by every existing tenant.

Mortgage figures are conventional posted-rate series from the Bank of Canada. They are benchmarks, not personalized lender offers. Use the mortgage payment calculator to test the rate and terms you can actually obtain.
